Punjab Government Rolls Out Comprehensive Disease Prevention Programme to Strengthen Public Health System

In a major step toward strengthening public health, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has granted in-principle approval for the launch of the “Chief Minister Punjab Disease Prevention Programme.” The initiative aims to curb the spread of major diseases across the province, with a strong focus on prevention, early detection, and public awareness.

The programme will primarily target life-threatening illnesses including diabetes, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis. Alongside preventive healthcare measures, a comprehensive province-wide awareness campaign will be launched to educate citizens about symptoms, treatment options, and the importance of early diagnosis. Officials highlighted that empowering the public with knowledge is key to reducing the burden of these diseases.

During the approval meeting, the chief minister directed authorities to ensure strict implementation of health standard operating procedures (SOPs) in both public and private healthcare facilities. She also ordered enhanced monitoring of hospitals and a crackdown on quack practitioners, emphasizing that effective prevention and regulation are essential to control the spread of infectious and chronic diseases.
