Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that measures are being taken for the welfare of senior citizens in under- developed countries including Pakistan.
She said this while talking to the representatives of NGOs regarding welfare of senior citizens. The Provincial Minister said that on the instruction of government, old people homes will be set up in the districts for the protection of hapless senior citizens where all necessities of life will be provided to them free of cost. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that the number of senior citizens is increasing in the society speedily which is alarming. She said that Pakistan and other under developed countries are taking measures for the welfare of senior citizens. She said that a 10-year strategy has been evolved in some countries for making laws regarding old citizens. She said that counters have been set up for the free treatment of senior citizens in the hospitals. She said that not only governments but civil society is also playing an active role for making life of senior citizens comfort.
