Construction of small dams expedited for irrigation purpose to ensure green revolution in Punjab

Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Mian Yawar Zaman has said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, work on small dams is going on speedily for irrigation purpose to ensure green revolution in the province.

He said this during his visit to Chehan Dam Rawalpindi today. Chief Engineer Development Zone Lahore Zahid Mansoor, Chief Engineer Sargodha Zone Malik Saleem, Principal Pakistan Engineering Academy Ahmad Sher Dogar and XEN Rawal Dam Mirza Zafar Hussain besides Muslim League leaders Maj. Retd. Muhammad Alam, Mian Muhammad Zafar Ahmad, Mehr Muhammad Arshad, Mian Khalid, Mian Allah Ditta and Dr. Muhammad Jamil were present on the occasion.

Mian Yawar Zaman directed the concerned authorities to ensure transparency at all stages of the construction of Chehn Dam and said that corruption and departmental negligence would not be tolerated in this regard. The Minister said that complaints had been received regarding change in PC-I of Chehan Dam and a committee of experts has been formed which would submit its report keeping in view all the technical aspects. He said that service to the people and their welfare are the priorities of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, therefore, instructions have been issued to expedite completion of welfare projects. He said that after completion of Chehan Dam, not only water would be available for cultivation of more than 8000 acres land of adjacent villages, Chehan, Mandwal and Ladian but drinking water would also be available in abundance.

Mian Yawar Zaman said that with the construction of Chehan Dam, there would be revolution of water in the adjacent villages which would help increase per acre yield. XEN Rawaldam Mirza Zafar Hussain briefed the Minister on the occasion and threw light on the technical aspects of Chehan Dam.
