Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here today which reviewed the arrangements for cleanliness, security in parks and smooth flow of traffic on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha across the province. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that there should not be any complaint regarding animal waste and filth from provincial metropolis as well as any other city of the province. He warned that no negligence will be tolerated in timely disposal of offal and animal waste. The Chief Minister directed that the staff of Solid Waste Management should remain alert and administration should ensure proper cleanliness arrangements throughout the province. He warned that stern action will be taken if people faced any problem due to animal waste. He said that three districts will be selected with regard to best cleanliness arrangements in the province while those districts where sanitary arrangements remained unsatisfactory will also be identified. He said that the ban on burning of heads and feet of animals at open places should be strictly implemented and stern action be taken over any violation. Shehbaz Sharif directed that solid waste management companies in other big cities should also be activated on the pattern of Lahore and a plan should be presented within a month regarding capacity building of these companies. The Chief Minister said that a large number of people visit parks on the occasion of Eid, therefore, no effort should be spared for providing best recreational facilities in the parks. He said that foolproof security should also be ensured in parks and a watchful eye should be kept on the prices and quality of edible items. He said that quality and prices of food items in parks should continuously be checked. He said that regular checking of swings in the parks should also be undertaken. The Chief Minister further directed that special attention should be paid to maintaining a smooth flow of traffic and special arrangements should be made for this purpose in Lahore, Murree, Patriata and other areas. While reviewing the matters pertaining to modern cattle markets in different cities of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif said that best facilities should be provided to the dealers and customers in cattle markets. He warned that illegal cattle markets and the sale of cattle at public places will not be tolerated. Issuing instructions for action against violators, he directed that permanent sheds should be built in all cattle markets. He said that Punjab government has set up latest cattle markets in Lahore and other cities of Punjab and beside deputing trained staff and providing modern machinery, effective security arrangements have also been made. He said that fees of all kinds in cattle markets have been abolished to facilitate dealers and customers. The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Member National Assembly Afzal Khokhar with regard to setting up modern cattle markets and model bazaars in different cities of the province. He directed Secretary Local Government to personally supervise all matters in this regard. Chief Secretary Punjab gave a briefing on arrangements on Eid-ul-Azha in the province, while Director General PHA informed about recreational facilities in parks and Managing Director WASA about cleanliness arrangements. Member National Assembly Afzal Khokhar, Kh. Ahmed Hassan, Chief Secretary, secretaries of different departments, Managing Director WASA and concerned officers were present on the occasion.
