Task Force For Human Rights Punjab To Present Provincial Policy On Human Rights

Provincial Minister and Chairman Task Force for Human Rights Punjab Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that task force will soon present provincial policy on human rights. He said that Punjab Government has taken various initiatives to improve situation of Human Rights in Punjab. He said that after establishing districts committees on human rights, it helps to control and monitor incidents of violation of Human Rights. Minister said that Pakistan is Signatory of 27 conventions of united nation, it is our obligation under international treaties and GSP Plus status to improve human rights situation. He said that task force will present its report after every six month.

He expressed these views while presiding 1st meeting of Provincial Task Force on Human Rights, Here in Civil Secretariat. Sandhu said that Federal Government has allocated 750 million for Human Rights Task Force of Punjab. In Punjab, reforms are under process to control trafficking of human organs, child labour, forced labour, welfare of transgender, prisons and protection of minorities right. He said that it is need of the hour to ensure strictly implementation of existing laws and proposed amendments where necessary. Additional Chief Secretary and Vice Chairman of Human Rights Task Force Shumail Ahmed Khawaja said that committees on task force of human rights on district level will formulate soon. He directed all provincials secretaries to appoint focal persons to ensure implementation of action plan of human rights. Secretary Human Rights Department Ahsan Iqbal has said that human rights departments is preparing comprehensive mechanism to implement action plan with coordination of federal government and provincial department. Steps are being taken to provide awareness on human right across the province. Deputy Director Human Rights Muhammad Yousaf breified the participants regarding departmental responsibilities to ensure the implementation of action plan. MPA Ramesh Singh Arora, Secretary Human Rights, Secretary Women Development, DG Labour, Director Human Rights, and officers from Higher Education, social welfare law and parliamentary affairs prosecution and local government were also present in the meeting.
