Strategic Reforms Unit (SRU) in collaboration with Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETNC) will host an Agreement Signing ceremony pertaining to the first reform of “Excise 2.0” in the form of V-Plates. The legislation pertaining to vanity plates was passed earlier on in 2016. With the implementation of this groundbreaking reform the Government of Punjab will provide the public with a legal avenue to obtain customized license plates. The V-Plates initiative is a further step in SRU’s comprehensive “Transport Sahulat Program’.
An international tender was released for the project in August 2016 through which SI Global, a leader in the field of technological innovations in Pakistan, won the bid after a detailed technical and financial evaluation.
The agreement signing is scheduled to take place on 6th July 2017 at Avari Hotel. The ceremony will be attended by the Minister Law & Parliamentary Affairs-Mr. Rana Sanaullah, Secretary ET & NC-Dr. Ahmad Balal, Director General SRU, Mr. Salman Sufi, Director General ET & NC-Mr. Ashraf Akram Gondal and CEO of SI Global- Mr. Nouman Said.
V-Plates will be a legal method for citizens to customize their number plates whilst ensuring all security features entailed in a number plate are kept intact. These V-Plates, will be ET & NC authorized plates with complete security features deeming them ANPR-readable and thereby traceable by cameras. For the initiation period, V-Plates will belong to various categories including corporate V-Plates, personalized V-Plates and those associated with different causes such as breast cancer awareness and disabilities awareness. Citizens will further have an option to customize number plates with national heroes (non-political nature). Citizens will have the options to choose from multiple sizes for their license plate. Moreover, V-Plates will comprise of retro-reflective material, uni-directional security marks, uniquely identified laser serial numbers alongside embossed alphabets and numbers. SI Global will be setting up Kiosks and facilitation centers along with the development of a smart phone application to streamline the attainment process for these plates. With this public private partnership citizen will be able to benefit from a comprehensive service delivery and effective customer service model.
