Provincial Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Mian Yawar Zaman has directed senior officials of Forest Department to constitute committees and acquire the services of consultants for harmonizing existing Forest Manual with modern demands so that the duties of Chief Conservators and Foresters could be determined in the light of new manual.
He stated this while presiding over an important meeting held regarding setting Forests Department on modern lines, at committee room of Secretary Forests, here today. Secretary Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Capt. Jahanzeb Khan, Chief Conservators of Fkorests, conservators and divisional forest officers from all over the province were present on the occasion. The Minister said that Forest Academy Ghora Gali is of paramount importance in Human Resource Development and its status will be equal to any degree awarding institution and capacity of officers and officials of Forest Department can be increased through this institution. Matters regarding further transparency and improvement in conditions of recruitment process against the vacancies of Sub Divisional Officers and Foresters were discussed in detail during the meeting.
Mian Yawar Zaman stressed upon the need to further improve technique of forestation in the light of climate change and said that we should benefit from the experiences of developed countries of the world. He said that the sections of the forestry, set up several decades ago, which have lost their usefulness will be set a new especially there is a need of modernization of research wing and forest control sections of the department. He said that steps should be taken on emergent basis for the rehabilitation of Sheesham trees. He said that besides planting saplings in forests, the department should also pay attention to social/urban forestry so that the needs of the province as well as the country could be fulfilled.
