Owing to effective steps of Punjab government, technology-based shrimp farming, aquaculture and value chain have been started in the province. After successful completion of the pilot research project of shrimp farming on 100 acres of land, the industry has been officially launched. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that this important achievement based on scientific research is the beginning of a new era of blue economy in Punjab. She added that the project includes establishment of hatcheries, aqua malls, processing plants, cold storage and integrated transport chain. She highlighted that by March 2026, shrimp estates covering 5,300 acres will be launched in Muzaffargarh and Sargodha. She underscored that the project has been developed with global research, development, and modern aquaculture technologies, and the support of world-class experts from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Ecuador, Australia and Mexico has been obtained. The project has been formally launched, the machinery is on the site and teams are working day and night. She flagged that a feasibility study is underway for shrimp farming on another 2,600 acres, and the project will be finalized for the farmers early next year.
