The Government of Punjab, through the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company, has launched the Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Cancer Patients to provide comprehensive, free-of-cost cancer care across the province. This landmark program underscores the government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden of life-threatening illnesses and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services.
Under this initiative, eligible patients are entitled to receive treatment coverage of up to PKR 1 million (Rs. 10 lakh) annually through a dedicated Special Initiative Card. The program offers end-to-end cancer care, including:
- Diagnostic services
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy
- Surgical interventions
- Essential medications
These services are delivered through a network of empaneled public and private healthcare facilities, ensuring accessibility and quality treatment across Punjab. With an estimated annual allocation of approximately PKR 13 billion, the initiative is designed to support thousands of cancer patients each year by providing timely, high-quality medical care without any out-of-pocket expenses. It forms a key component of the Punjab government’s broader healthcare reform agenda, which also includes targeted programs for cardiac and stroke patients, aiming to build a more inclusive and resilient healthcare system.
