Excise Department To Increase Amount Of Prizes Given To Officers & Officials

Provincial Excise & Taxation Department has decided to increase the amount of prizes given for the encouragement of officers, officials and informers of the department helping in seizing of narcotics. The meeting presided over by Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has approved recommendations in this regard.

Provincial Minister for Finance Ayesha Ghaus Pasha besides Secretary Excise & Taxation, Director General Excise & Taxation, Deputy Director Finance, Additional Secretary Home, Additional Secretary S&GAD, Additional Secretary Narcotics and Deputy Secretary Technical Excise & Taxation were present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that according to law of 1966, Rs. 500 had been given to those helping in detection of narcotics at Director level, Rs. 750 at Director Headquarter level and Rs. 1000 at Commissioner Excise & Taxation level which are not sufficient in present days. Therefore, people will be encouraged with increase in the amount of prizes according to ratio of price-hike and they will play their better role in the elimination of narcotics.

The committee headed by Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation  Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, constituted under a summary sent by Excise & Taxation Department to Punjab Chief Minister for additional amounts in this regard, has given approval to increase to one lakh rupees in the cash prize of those helping in seizing of narcotics at Director General Excise & Taxation/Commissioner Excise level, Rs. 75 thousand at Additional Director General Excise level while Rs. 50 thousand at Director Excise & Taxation level. The meeting also gave approval to the constitution of a 3-member committee in this regard. This committee will determine suitability for giving prizes to the persons working against drugs. Provincial Minister for Finance Ayesha Ghaus Pasha proposed that the amount of prize should be conditional with the performance for encouragement of hard working staff. She said that officers and officials working against drugs are a precious asset of the society and their encouragement will help establishment of drug free society.
