Precautionary Measures Given Final Shape For Protection From Possible Devastations Due To Heavy Rains

In view of the forecasts of Meteorological Department,   precautionary measures have been given final shape for protection from possible devastations due to heavy rains during next few days and district administrations have been put on alert throughout the province.

This was told at a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Flood presided over by Provincial Minister for Industry Ch. Shafiq Ahmed at Civil Secretariat, today. Besides SMBR Zahid Saeed, Commissioners of Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Sargodha Divisions attended the meeting through video link. DG PDMA Jawad Akram, In-charge Meteorological Department and other officers attended the meeting.

Ch. Muhammad Shafiq directed all commissioners to remain alert for protecting from the devastations of possible rains and make arrangements for the protection of life and property of the people. The meeting was told that there is possibility of low flood due to heavy rains in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Faisalabad Divisions from March 11 to 13. DG PDMA told that there will be 50 to 75 mm rains. He told that central control room at PDMA office has been activated. He said that instructions have been issued to control rooms in all districts to remain alert. He said that in order to meet any emergency situation, 28959 tents, 239 OBM, 288 boats and 14424 plastic mats are available in the stock. He told that demands have been obtained from all districts for the purchase of relief items.

Jawad Akram told that orders have been issued to demolish 8273 dilapidated buildings in the province and 25 percent work has been completed. He said that 125 dilapidated buildings in Bahawalpur, three in Gujranwala, 64 in Lahore, 5 in Multan, one in Rawalpindi and 146 in Sargodha have been demolished. He told that operation is also continuing.
