Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that protection of women rights is not only the basic responsibility of the state but of every citizen. She said that everyone should be aware of the rights and obligations of each other. She said that early marriages are also causing increase in population and leaving negative affects on the health of the children.
In a message on International Human Rights Day, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that Punjab government is taking steps for controlling marriages in early age and awareness is being created among the people. She said that the programmes of family planning are aimed at controlling the increasing population and giving special importance to mother & child health as the progress and prosperity of the family is linked with the best health of the mother. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that marriages of boys and girls in early age create psychological, economic and social problems and it is a big problem. She said that Punjab government is resolving this problem through promotion of education. She urged upon all political, social and legal circles to launch an effective campaign against early age marriages so that progressive attitudes and balanced approach could be promoted in the society.
