Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed ud Din has said that women are future of the country. She said that Punjab government is determined to protect women rights and eliminate violence against women. She said that Women Protection Bill will be approved in the current session of Punjab Assembly.
She expressed these views while addressing an inaugural ceremony of making Kasur a safe district from violence against women. Australian High Commissioner Margaret Adamson, Member Provincial Assembly Mari Gill, Secretary Women Development Department Dr. Aamina Imam, Country Director Oxfam GB Arif Jabbar, DCO Kasur Adnan Arshad Aulakh, DPO Kasur Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, DIG Motorway Faraan Baig, Mrs. Mumtaz Mughal of Aurat Foundation, Zara Oxfam GB, Waqas Abid from Good Thinkers Organization, Deputy Secretary Falak Sher Bhatti, prominent columnist Munno Bhai, Haseena Moin, district officers and a large number of women were present on the occasion.
Hameeda Waheed ud Din said that Punjab government has taken concrete measures for the empowerment and development of women and women empower package 2012-15 are part of it. She said that Punjab government has increased job quota for women from five percent to 15 percent. Similarly, 50 percent funds have been allocated for women in youth business loan programme at 40 percent shares has been fixed for women in small business loan programme, she added.
DCO Kasur Adnan Arshad Aulakh in his address said that the administration and all departments in Kasur will take every possible step for making the district free from gender violence. He said that the transfer of inherited property is being made immediately to women after amendment in land revenue act. DPO Kasur Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that 2138 police employees are ensuring elimination of gender violence and protection of women.
Secretary Women Development Aamina Imam said that Punjab government in consultation with all civil society organizations has evolved legal and institutional system. Similarly, an effective review and monitoring process of women friendly laws is of great importance, she added.
