Provincial Minister for Irrigation and Chairman PIDA, Mian Yawar Zaman has said that modern training of disaster management will be imparted to Irrigation Engineers so that along with protection of canal structure during flood situation, this staff could also get the ability of coping with other natural calamities.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review the post flood situation at his office. Senior engineers of Irrigation Department and other officers attended the meeting. A representative delegation of farmers of flood affected areas was also present on the occasion. The Minister said that officers and field staff of Irrigation Department ensured protection of canal structure by working round the clock during recent flood and continued process of patrolling on water courses for complete protection of canal installations. He said that Irrigation staff maintained liaison with other concerned departments due to which administration timely started relief activities in flood affected districts. He further said that engineers of Irrigation Department are backbone of the department and their departmental role is of paramount importance, therefore the engineers will be imparted modern training to cope with natural disasters.
