Govt. Pays Special Attention on Girls' Education

Provincial Minister for Population Welfare, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that Punjab government has set an example by establishing 1100 centers of basic education throughout the province.She was addressing a function regarding early childhood education and rights of girls arranged by Plan International Pakistan and NRSP at a local hotel, here today. Members Provincial Assembly Dr. Ayesha Aftab, Raheela Khadim Hussain, Lubna Faisal, Ehsan Bhutta and Imran Shani also spoke on the occasion. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that education of girls is of utmost importance as men and women have equal rights in the constitution. She said that we will have to promote equality between boys and girls as education of girls means equipping the future generations with education. She appreciated the efforts of Plan International for looking after the girls and its services for education and assured cooperation by the government. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz stressed upon adopting new approach towards gender indiscrimination as women have to face social injustices and there is a dire need of removing these hurdles by making joint efforts. She said that if provided pportunities, the women can play outstanding performance in every field of life. She said that girls education has become world priority. Later, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz launched the report of Plan International with topic “Because I am a girl”.
