Punjab govt making efforts to ensure governance, transparency: Shuja-ur-Rehman

Punjab Minister for Finance, Law and Excise & Taxation, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that Punjab government is making efforts to improve governance, establish rule of law, ensure merit based and transparent recruitment, creation of 1 million jobs per year and ensure transparent and accountable governance. He said that reforms are being pursued for better service delivery, improvement of fiscal and financial arrangements and facilitating greater private sector participation in the economy. He said that Punjab Public-Private Partnership for Infrastructure Act 2010 has been passed in order to create an enabling environmental for private sector participation in infrastructure development through Public Private Partnership projects. He said that Punjab government has initiated various projects to improve the economic condition of the provinces, Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Quaid-e-Azam Apparel Park, Chief Minister Scheme for unemployment youth. The Minister said that the strides are also being made in the field of energy and energy projects of 20000 megawatt will be set up in the country and measures are being taken for the completion of coal fired projects.
           
While talking to various notables on the completion of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that government of Punjab is committed to improve the overall business climate of the province to make it more conducive for domestic as well as foreign investors creating better quality jobs and enhancing business competitiveness. Punjab’s vision is to revive growth and private sector investment to complement medium term development framework 2014-2018 and Punjab’s Growth Strategy to achieve the growth rate of 8% by 2018, increase private sector investment in Punjab from $ 8 billion to $ 17.5 billion by 2018. He said that there is a need to utilize national resources equitably for setting up of a peaceful society and economic prosperity of the masses whereas problems like corruption, safarish and unemployment can be controlled through good governance and transparency. He maintained that our country of 190 million people has a vibrant economy, and our majority population is under 20 and this makes South Asia as the only large economic area that shall not face a decline in the number of people entering the labor force for the next 50 years, whereas, future is ours, it concluded.
