Taxes levied on elite to be used for development projects: Shuja-ur-Rehman

Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation, Law and Finance, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that property, token and services taxes are the major source of income of the government. The modern computerized technology is being introduced for improving the system of receipt of taxes as good governance and elimination of corruption is the mission of Punjab government, he maintained. He said that present government has levied tax only on elite and well-to-do-people as the funds are required for developmental projects and to complete the ongoing public welfare schemes. He asked the E&T officials to speed up the recovery campaign of professional tax and other departmental levies. He reiterated the need to complete such schemes like online payment of taxes as early as possible so that citizens could easily deposit their taxes without wasting their time.
          
Meanwhile, addressing the delegations of Nurses on the World Day of Nursing, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said that serving to ailing humanity is a noble job, therefore, the nurses are performing their duties as a sacred mission. He said nurses and paramedical staff have a vital role in providing basic health facilities to the people at grass root level. He said that the government was committed to upgrade the nursing services and sensitize the problems being faced by this most vital sector of healthcare system as the government was feeling that this sector was neglected section in past therefore, steps would be taken to boost the nursing cadre and upgrade the socio-economic condition of the people concerned besides to improve the working skill of nurses. He said that government has created 3000 new posts of nurses and Rs. 1.43 billion has been allocated for this purpose. He said that government has provided record funds to health and education sectors for imparting modern education to the students Rs. 274 billion have been provided which is 26.25 percent of the total budget of the province.
