Women playing active role in progress of country: Begum Zakia Shahnawaz

Provincial Minister for Population Welfare, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that women are playing an active role in the progress and development of the country and Punjab government is taking practical measures for their welfare in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister.

She was addressing 16th annual prize distribution ceremony of Government College of Home Economics Gulberg, here today. Member Provincial Assembly Lubna Faisal, College Principal Dr. Samia Kalsoom, teachers and large number of students were present on the occasion. The Minister said education is a key to progress and prosperity and it is a fact that educated women change the destiny of a nation. She said that women package and its implementation in Punjab is a milestone in the welfare and betterment of women. She said that granting of rights to women and their socio economic empowerment is essential for progress of the society. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz congratulated the students of the college on their success and said that syllabus of the college is in harmony with the demands of the practical life.
                   
Prof. Dr. Samia Kalsoom appreciated the efforts of Begum Zakia Shahnawaz in education sector. She said it is due to tireless efforts of the teachers of the college that 97 percent students in BS Honours passed in university examination while 83 percent students were given laptops by the Chief Minister. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz distributed prizes, certificates and shields among the position holder students. College Principal Dr. Samia Kalsoom presented a shield to Begum Zakia Shahnawaz.
