Chief Secretary Punjab Khizar Hayyat Gondal has ordered speeding up process of consultation on steel-making from the iron ore deposits in Kalabagh and Chiniot.
He was presiding over a consultative meeting regarding utilizing the potential of locally-available iron ore deposits at Kalabagh and Chiniot, here at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that huge reserves of iron ore exist in Kalabagh and Chiniot. Utilizing these iron deposits in a best possible way is the need of the hour, he added. He maintained that the Punjab government has taken concrete measures to tap mineral resources in the province. He said that the government is providing facilities and opportunities for private sector so that it could play its role in economic growth.German Consultant Company IMC presented the steel prepared from iron ore of Kalabagh. German experts also shared details of the initial feasibility report regarding steel-making from iron ore of Kalabagh. On this occasion Secretary Mines Dr Arshad Mehmood gave detailed briefing. Participants of the meeting presented their suggestions. Steel Mills Owners Association office-holders lauded the efforts of Punjab government for utilizing iron ore depots in the province.
Those among present were Chairman Planning and Development Department, DG PCSIR, representatives of Research Institutes, experts of mining and metallurgy and office-bearers of Steel Mills Owner Association.
