Director General Fisheries Punjab Dr. Muhammad Ayub has said that Fisheries Department has started anti-dengue campaign for the elimination of dengue larvae and 94300 tilapia fish seeds have been released in 181 water bodies in the province. He directed field staff of the department to accelerate anti-dengue campaign and regularly monitor dengue larvae in the water bodies in their respective areas.
This was stated by him while presiding over a meeting in the committee room of his office regarding eradication of dengue. Officers of Fisheries Department from Lahore and other districts were present in the meeting. Dr. Muhammad Ayub stressed upon district officers to arrange events for promoting public awareness against dengue and in their respective areas and distribute literature regarding preventive measures against dengue. He said that 53000 tilapia fish seeds have been released in 146 water bodies in Lahore, 9000 in three water bodies in Bahawalpur, 23000 in 20 water bodies in Faisalabad, 1500 in two water bodies in Sargodha, 7100 in nine water bodies in Multan whereas 1700 tilapia fish seed has been released in one water body in Gujranwala. He directed the officers to use all their energies to make anti-dengue campaign successful and warned that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
