Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mian Yawar Zaman has said that all farmers have equal right over canal water. He said that the implementation on a new strategy has been started for checking canal water theft, under which, besides water thieves, strict legal action will be taken against the officials involved in water theft. Mian Yawar Zaman warned that action will be taken against the officers not making recovery of abiyana of canal water. Therefore, all field officers should achieve the target of recovery of abiyana, he added.
He said this while presiding over a departmental meeting. Field officers of the department attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Mian Yawar Zaman said that implementation on a strategy has been started for resolving problems being faced by Irrigation Department. He said that supply of canal water to small farmers is priority of the government. The Irrigation Minister said that instructions have been issued to all Chief Engineers for taking strict action against the officials involved in water theft. While talking about the field management plan, Mian Yawar Zaman directed field officers not to show any negligence in the process of patrolling alongside canals so that canal assets and public properties could be protected.
