Irrigation minister inaugurates brickling of water channels

Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Mian Yawar Zaman has said that the Punjab Irrigation Department is being harmonized on modern lines by adopting development reforms so that it could serve the farmers in a better way. He said that brick-lining would help reach water at the tail-ends besides just distribution of water. While addressing the farmers, the Minister said that the canals are property of the farmers and the purpose of including them in the affairs of canals is to improve the delivery system.

He expressed these views while inaugurating the project of brick-lining of water channels of Chak-1L, 2L, 4L and 1R under Lower Bari Do Aaba Canal Improvement Project in Okara today. A large number of farmers besides officers of Irrigation Department were present on the occasion.

Mian Yawar Zaman said that the reconstruction work of the Department is going on speedily and, under a coordinated strategy, the canals are being brick-lined in phases so that the canal water could be saved. On the complaints of famers regarding water theft, the Minister issued orders for suspension of Sub Engineer Anwar Minhas of water channel 4L.
