Conference held for Commissioners and Secretaries

Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Aslam presided over a meeting of Provincial Secretaries and Divisional Commissioners at the committee room of Civil Secretariat, here today. Additional Secretaries, Senior Member Board of Revenue and senior officers were also present. The meeting reviewed the performance of all departments while provincial secretaries gave briefings with regard to their departments. The Chief Secretary directed that pension cases of retiring government employees be disposed of on priority basis. He also directed that disciplinary cases against government employees pending in various departments should be decided at the earliest. He also gave instructions to hold meetings of DPC and PSB on time for promotion of government officers and employees to the next grade. The meeting also reviewed receipt of government revenues by Revenue, Excise & Taxation and Irrigation Departments and Emergency Enrollment Campaign of Schools Education Department. The meeting also reviewed the matters pertaining to land given on lease under various schemes by Livestock & Dairy Development Department and the ongoing operation against electricity and gas thieves.

The meeting was told that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval to a sum of Rs.2 billion for the improvement of graveyards in the province and a project is also being launched for eliminating the ponds of polluted water for preventing viral diseases and saving underground water from pollution in rural areas. Secretary Schools told that under Emergency Enrollment Scheme, 34 lakh 21 thousand children have been enrolled in schools so far. The Chief Secretary directed to speed up measures for the rehabilitation of flood affectees and curbing the incidents of water theft.

Secretary Health while giving a briefing regarding dengue situation said that the number of confirmed dengue patients is 129 in the province however only five patients are under treatment at present. He said that indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance work is continuing while targeted spray/ fogging is also being conducted. He further told that separate dengue wards and high dependency units are functional in teaching and DHQ hospitals. However, no patient is under treatment in HDU. It was further told that two cases of polio have been reported in Punjab this year. He further informed that selection of 2500 doctors has been completed through Public Service Commission who will soon join the department due to which shortage of doctors in government hospitals and health centers will be removed to a great extent.
