Punjab government committed to promotion and up-gradation of school education

Provincial Minister for Finance, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that Punjab government is pursuing a comprehensive policy for the promotion & up-gradation of school education and Rs. 3.5 billion have been provided for the provision of missing facilities in all girls schools.

While addressing various delegations, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman informed that Rs. 3.30 billion has been provided for the distribution of free of cost syllabus books to the students. He said that Rs. 7.50 billion to the Punjab Education Foundation for grant to the private schools as 13 lakh students are getting education in private schools. He said that Punjab Government had spent Rs. 19 billion during its previous tenure to provide missing facilities in 8749 schools of the province, whereas, Rs. 5 billion were spent during last fiscal year for provision of missing facilities in two thousand schools. He said that IT labs had been set up in more than 5000 high schools and 515 middle schools. He said that scholarships of 12 billion rupees are being provided to more than 50 thousand students within the country and abroad from Endowment fund.

Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that 3068 primary and middle schools had been upgraded at a cost of Rs.13005 million during the last five years. He said that more than 75 thousand teachers had been recruited on merit in a transparent manner for removing shortage of school teachers throughout the province. He said that modern science lab have been established in one thousand high schools of the province at a cost of one billion rupees. He said that scholarships are being given to more than 50 thousand students from Punjab Education Endowment Fund this year. He said that the government has finished all reserve seats of self-finance in professional colleges and only talented students are being getting admission on merit. Talented girl and boy students are being given laptops while the male and female students obtaining first position in all the boards are sent abroad on tour to the prestigious universities of the world, he concluded.
