Transparency in governance be promoted through joint project of ITU-Punjab and PITB funded by World Bank

Vice Chancellor Information Technology University, Dr. Omar Saif has said that Punjab is being harmonized with modern trends of information technology in accordance with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that under the project being started with the financial cooperation of World Bank, good governance and transparency will be ensured and the details of all the projects of government sector will be provided to the people, media and opposition through a website. He said that this multifarious project will be completed with the collaboration of IT University and Punjab Information Technology Board.

Dr. Omar Saif said that the project will be executed by ITU’s newly hired team of world-class researchers, entrepreneurs, government sector participants, academics and policy-makers. The project will be completed within 18 months, he added.

Dr. Omar said that ITU’s research philosophy aims at integrating computer science education and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) research to foster multidisciplinary innovation and entrepreneurship. He said that the team of technologists will be working closely with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and other government bodies to roll out diverse mobile governance platforms and frameworks to facilitate effective service delivery. ITU is also working with additional donor agencies to kick-start complementary projects, he added.

Dr Umar Saif further said that the project’s cutting-edge innovations will boost productivity and coordination, improve the quality of monitoring and evaluation, increase transparency and deliver better services to citizens and businesses at radically reduced costs.
