Transportation of machinery for the Nandipur Power Project to be completed within 10 days

There has been a tremendous and conspicuous progress today with regard to Nandipur Power Project as the process of transportation of machinery for Nandipur Power Project, which had been lying at Karachi Port for the last many years, has been started which would be completed within ten days without any break. It may be mentioned that this project was scheduled to be completed in 2011 but due to wrong policies and non-serious attitude of the previous government, the project could not be completed on time and its cost has risen from Rs.22 billion to Rs.57 billion. The machinery and other equipment worth 110 million dollars was lying unattended since 2010 at Karachi Port which needs not only repair due to weather affects and other reasons but a number of spare parts of the machinery would have to be changed as well. But correct assessment would be made as the machinery reaches on site after technical inspection while the government has allocated an amount of 50 million dollars for this purpose.

It may be mentioned that the big achievement of Chief Minister, Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was to persuade Chinese Company to restart the work on Nandipur Power Project. Chinese engineers have made commitment to complete this project within one- and-a-half year but the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is determined to complete it within a year. As much as 425 megawatts of electricity would be added to the national grid after completion of this project.

Managing Director Nandipur Power Project, Muhammad Mehmood while talking to the journalists on the occasion told that transportation of machinery from Karachi Port to Nandipur Power Project is being completed on emergent basis and the process of transportation of machinery from Karachi Port to Nandipur Power Project has already been started.  He further told that the government has paid a sum of Rs.50 crore out of one billion rupees, as machinery storage charges to KPT.  However, KPT has exempted the said machinery from storage charges from June 2011, he added.
