Modern reforms required by WASA to improve collection and generation of revenue system

Provincial Minister for Industry and Housing Arif Ejaz has said that WASA will have to introduce modern reforms for improving its performance and evolve a comprehensive strategy for further improving collection and generation of revenue system. He directed that connections of defaulters should be disconnected immediately and action should be taken against all such places including commercial areas where bills are not being paid continuously and a report be submitted to him within few days.

He expressed these views during a briefing regarding performance of WASA today. Provincial Law Minister Shams Mehmood Mirza, Advisor for Taxation Zia Rizvi, Secretaries Finance, Housing, Excise, Chairman P&D, MD WASA and other senior officers were present in the meeting.

The meeting discussed matters relating to improving the performance of the department, providing relief to the people and best use of human resource policy. Arif  Ejaz said that WASA with the cooperation of WAPDA will have to evolve such a strategy through which people should get immediate relief. He directed that no leniency should be shown to the defaulters of bills and legal action taken against such persons. Provincial Minister suggested that the department will have to evolve such a strategy for the future so that caretaker government should bring improvement in its performance by introducing modern reforms. Law Minister Shams Mahmood Mirza said that WASA authorities will have to improve the administrative matters including overbilling, water theft and revenue generation and take emergent steps for preserving energy.
