Punjab Social Welfare Department serving the deserving and destitute

Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that Social Welfare Department Punjab is providing important services to deserving and destitute people of the society through various institutions which are helpful for the rehabilitation of resourceless persons.

She was addressing the annual review meeting of common projects started with the cooperation of UNICEF and Punjab Social Welfare Department. Secretary S.W. Tahir Sarfaraz Awan, DG Social Welfare Malik Aslam, representatives of UINICEF, Plan International, Local Government, PDMA Literacy Department and DCOs of Rahimyar Khan and Bahawalpur also addressed the meeting.

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that like other countries, our society is also facing health, education, social and other problems and Punjab Social Welfare Department is trying to resolve these issues with the cooperation of social and welfare departments. She said that no doubt NGOs are also playing a commendable role in this regard.

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that the children are being provided professional, formal and non-formal education through Community Development Programme so that they could become useful member of the society. She said that we are trying to take practical steps for the development of all areas of the province. She said that a comprehensive policy is being evolved for the protection of children rights. She appreciated the plans chalked out by UNICEF and NGOs for the rehabilitation of children and expressed the hope that more projects would be initiated in less developed areas so that they could fully benefit from them.
