World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have lauded the efforts of Punjab government for achieving the target in anti-polio campaign in Lahore. According to the report of both the organizations, polio drops administering campaign has been successful over 95% in all the 80 union councils of the provincial metropolis. This report has also been sent to provincial government and WHO authorities. It is pertinent to mention here that different methods were adopted to get better results. Pashto speaking staff was deputed for administering polio vaccination to the children of Pakhtoon families while assistance of Ulema was also sought in this regard. WHO representative especially praised the Punjab government for taking steps towards right direction. He said that a minimum of 95% target of administering polio drops was given in sensitive districts like Lahore, Rawalpindi, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Layyah and Multan. WHO also appreciated the efforts of Special Assistant to Chief Minister, DCO and officers of concerned departments in this regard.
