In order to ensure easy availability of essential items to the consumers, price magistrates conducted 1783 surprise raids at Ramazan Bazaars and markets and recovered a fine of Rs.1179700 from them for overcharging. Twenty-five shopkeepers have also been arrested and cases have been got registered against them at concerned police stations.
This was stated by Secretary Industries Dr. Shujaat Ali while presiding over a meeting regarding Ramazan Bazaars and fair price shops, here today. Officers of Food, Industries and other concerned departments were also present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that daily use items are easily available in Ramazan Bazaars and fair price shops. The representative of Food Department informed that 1639 metric tons wheat was released to flour mills while 163992 atta bags were sent to Ramazan Bazaars out of which 109394 atta bags have been sold. The meeting was further informed that 197334 kilogram sugar was also sold in Ramazan Bazaars. Similarly, as many as 199318 men and women have benefitted from 1532 Dasterkhawans throughout the province.
Secretary Industries Dr. Shujat Ali urged the officers to ensure smooth supply of daily use items to the people in the month of Ramazan ul Mubarak. He said that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
