Director General Fisheries Dr. Muhammad Ayub has said that in order to rehabilitate six existing fish seed nursery farms in the province, new ponds are being constructed on modern lines. It has been decided to install solar water pumps at those fish seed nursery farms to fulfill the water requirements whereas rusted water supply pipelines would also be replaced for conservation of water resources.
He disclosed this while presiding over a meeting held in connection with rehabilitation of fish seed farms, here today. Director Fisheries Extension Dr. Iftikhar Qureshi, Director Fisheries and Project Director Dr. Sikandar, Deputy Director Planning & Development Anser Mehmood Chatha and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion. DG Fisheries Dr. Muhammad Ayub said that due to interruption and outage of electricity, water supply for fish seed farms was being affected so that it has been decided to install solar water pumps.
Dr. Muhammad Ayub said that the work is underway speedily for rehabilitation of fish nursery farms at Pirowal in Khanewal, Shahpur in Sargodha, Fateh Jang in Attock, Kotli Araian in Sialkot, Pir Mehal in Toba Tek Singh and Hasilpur in Bahawalpur. He said that Rs.11 crore are being spent to rehabilitate these fish seed nursery farms on modern lines. He said that after completion of the project, 22 lakh additional fish seed will be produced which will not only enhance fish production from 400 to 500 metric tons but will also help in promotion of fisheries sector.
