The Punjab Road Safety Authority will start working from March 16 this year in three selected district including Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan. In the first phase, this authority is mandated to provide safe and secure environment on roads by eliminating accidents and setting up prompt medical facilities for the people.
This was stated by Minister for Information & Excise and Taxation Mian Muujtaba Shuja ur Rehman while presiding over a meeting at his office on Wednesday. Secretary Transport Javed Akbar, Additional IG Traffic Police, DG Rescue 1122, Additional Secretary Excise and Taxation and other high officials attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed different proposals regarding setting up of Punjab Road Safety Authority in the province. While addressing the meeting, the Minister said that this authority is another milestone achievement of the Punjab government and added that this authority would help in decreasing Road accidents as well as provision of safe and secure traffic system on the roads. This will give new confidence and hope to the people and mothers will not remain worried about the return of their kids after their departure from homes.
The Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has introduced far reaching reforms in the province and it is hope that the establishment of this authority will further benefit the people, he added. The Minister said that the authority will be established in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad in the first phase and it will be extended to other district as well. He further said that this authority will design and developed different strategies to safe guard the lives of the passengers and drivers will be trained about traffic rules and safety standards. The meeting was told that the act authority will be presented in Punjab Assembly for approval and after that the authority will formally start its work.
