PDMA Punjab to Observe National Disaster Awareness Day

In commemoration of the martyrs of October 8, 2005 earthquake, the greatest of disasters in the history of Pakistan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab in collaboration with Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), district administrations and other departments will observe National Disaster Awareness Day on 8 October, 2017 all across the province. This year commemoration is under the theme “TAYAR PAKISTAN” that is aimed at creating awareness by spreading the message of resilience building, preparedness while highlighting anticipated hazards, threats and possible measures for reducing impact of such risks. In this regard, Director General PDMA Mudassar Waheed Malik chaired a meeting at the Committee Room of PDMA Punjab which was attended by all stakeholders to finalize arrangements with respect to different activities, roles and responsibilities to observe National Disaster Awareness Day. Assigning high priority to this year’s theme and to the Disaster Risk Reduction in the backdrop of natural disasters that occurred in Pakistan, PDMA Punjab has decided to observe the day with full strength and vigor and to carry out different public awareness activities like city branding with public service messages on natural and man-made disasters, installation of streamers and bill boards, arranging walk, holding of disaster related seminars, photo exhibitions, flag march and rescue demonstrations, distribution of leaflets with public service messages etc. at provincial and district levels. While addressing the meeting, DG PDMA Mudassar Waheed Malik told that PDMA Punjab has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to celebrate “National Disaster Awareness Day” in their respective districts by holding different public awareness activities in order to create awareness among the general public.
