Committee Constituted to Probe Child Delivery Incident

On the directions of Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique, Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah has constituted a 4-member fact-finding committee to investigate the incident of child delivery at underpass of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. This committee will present its report within 48 hours. Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Mehmood Ayaz has been deputed as convener of the committee while Professor of Gynecology Lady Wellingdon Hospital Dr. Arshad Chohan and Professor of Gynecology Lady Aitcheson Hospital Dr. Farhat Naaz will work as its members.
Meanwhile, Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique reached to the hospital after receiving the report of delivery at underpass of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital through media and probed the matters personally. He also gleaned facts from the mother and husband of the patient besides garnering details from the hospital staff. The husband of the patient Muhammad Riaz and other attendants told that the patient namely Bushra Riaz has been admitted to the hospital’s Gyne Emergency Ward since last night for the delivery of her child. She was inspected upon by the doctors and was given necessary medical instructions on Friday morning. Meanwhile, the patient was going to the hospital canteen for drinking juice along with her mother-in-law that a spontaneous delivery occurred at the underpass. The attendants of the said patient said that they have been completely looked after and they don’t have any complaint towards the hospital staff.
While talking to the media, Provincial Minister Kh. Salman Rafique said that the patient and her attendants are fully satisfied with the hospital staff but an inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and to ensure that such sort of incidents could be avoided in future. The Chief Minister Punjab has also taken notice and has ordered to hold inquiry of the incident, concluded the Minister.
