The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has rooted out 69 hot chilli pepper and spices factories on the account of adulteration and sealed 89 units of spices during 2017. Whereas 456 spices factories were checked by PFA’s watchdogs.
This was raveled by Director General PFA Noor ul Amin Mengal during presided over a meeting with officer bearers of Akbari Mandi Association at PFA Headquarter on Saturday. A meeting agenda was to discuss about impose ban on the sale of open spices from 2019.
Mengal told that adulteration ratio is too high in loose spices as compare to other food products. He said that food safety teams discarded more than 40000 kg substandard, adulterated and low quality spices by taking action against them. He said that it is not easy task to keep safe essential commodities from wicked practice of adulterators, for which PFA is going to impose ban on the sale of loose spices from next year 2019.
