Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Program (PICIIP) is an important milestone in the development of Sialkot, Sahiwal, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and Muzaffargarh said Principal Urban Development Specialist, Urban Development and water Division Central and west Asia Department (CWUW), Kiyoshi Nakamitsu, at five-day Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mission visit to Lahore and Sialkot. City Agreement also signed between Local Government Department and City governments of Sahiwal and Sialkot that will expedite the implementation of Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Program (PICIIP) to develop sustainable urban infrastructure in Sahiwal and Sialkot in the first phase. It will complement the ongoing efforts of the Government of Punjab to achieve sustainable development goals in intermediate cities he added.
ADB Mission comprises of Principal Urban Development Specialist Kiyoshi Nakamitsu, Ms. Oyeshadevie S.I Thakerodin Consultant, Urban Climate Change Specialist, Mr. Charles Felix Simbillo Associate Project Analyst (CWUW) and Senior Project Officer Pakistan Resident Mission Mr Shaukat Shafi.
PICIIP aims to support Municipal Corporations of intermediate cities to develop sustainable, vibrant, resilient, innovative and equitable city. PICIIP will strengthen business process and economic activities as well as will finance subprojects to provide safer, efficient and sustainable urban Infrastructure through transport, solid waste, waste water and drainage solution said Program Director PICIIP Kaiser Saleem at the occasion.
“The PICIIP is consistent with the Punjab Chief Ministers Vision 2020 for the urban sector that aims to create world class Infrastructure and services to support Modern urban centers. The assistance of ADB is a welcome development for intermediate cities of Punjab and it will greatly contribute to improving the quality of life of its residents He added.
