Opening ceremony of Young Women Leaders’ Network under the project “Generating Data to Advance Women’s Social and Economic Wellbeing in Pakistan” by Punjab Commission on the Status of Women was held on 5-3-18, at Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore.
Ms. Hameeda Waheed ud Din, Minister for Women Development Department inaugurated the leadership training programme. The 3-day training is going to be held in Lahore for selected female students from all over Punjab. Young Leaders’ Network is a component of the aforementioned project through which young women leaders from selected colleges in each of the 36 districts of Punjab is formed to nurture their talent and leadership potential and to engage them in awareness raising activities in their communities at district level. An interactive theatrical performance on violence against women was presented by International Resource Center.
Ms. Fauzia Viqar Chairperson PCSW and representatives of Punjab Youth Caucus spoke about the social and economic issues of women at grassroot level. Ms. Shazia Sarwar, AIG Gender and Ms. Ammara Awais, University of Lahore also shared their views about women empowerment at the occasion. They ceremony was attended by representatives from various government and non-government organizations, academia and civil society.
