The dairy safety team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) disposed of 5,000 litres tainted milk in a crackdown against milk adulteration mafia and to curb the sale of impure milk in Punjab.
Thousands of litres chemically contaminated milk was carried on milk vehicle No. LES-3825 for supplying milk shops of the metropolitan city (Lahore) from Mandi Bhauddin. On Friday, PFA placed screening pickets early morning at the entry and exit points of the city and checked 10,500 litres milk. The purpose of the milk inspection was ensuring the supply of pure milk at every nook and corner of Punjab as per the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan and Punjab Government.
Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that PFA tested the milk on the spot and found adulterated ingredients in five thousand litres milk. He said that Banaspati Ghee and powder were used to enhance the thickness of milk. He said that the team also found the contaminated water in it during the screening test. He said that water usually used to increase the quantity of milk. He further said that in greed of getting more profit, adulterated milk was being supplied to Lahore city. Adulterated milk usage causes many diseases amongst children as well as elders.
The director general said that PFA dairy safety teams are fully loaded with modern lactoscan milk analyser machines, which are able to identify any kind of adulteration in milk. Those vehicles which carry safe and healthy milk, are always being appreciated after testing by dairy safety teams of PFA. Muhammad Usman said that milk supply is being checked on a daily basis as per directions of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. Lastly, he added that the pasteurization process is the only way to stop the wicked practice of milk adulteration.
