Taskforce for Eradication of Drugs from Educational Institutions

A meeting of anti narcotics committee co chaired by Minister Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun has decided to form high powered Taskforce to devise concrete strategy to find way out to discourage use of drugs particularly in education institutions. Necessary actions for rehabilitation of drug addicted were also discussed. The Proposed provincial taskforce would be comprised on Health, Higher Education, School Education and Excise and Anti Narcotics Ministers and respective administrative secretaries. “The tragic problem is that mostly drug users become drug peddlers” regretted the Minister Health. She also said that “Rooting out menace of narcotics and rehabilitation of drug addicted was the need of the hour”. Dr. Yasmin Rashid stressed upon all concerned departments to formulate workable strategy. “We would introduce new legislation for eradication of drugs if necessary” she wowed. The Health Minister also suggested for a helpline for registering of complaints of parents of students, school administration and those of general public. During the meeting Minister Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun while showing his grave concern on use of drugs at educational institutions, noted that solid steps should be taken for rehabilitation of addicts on permanent grounds as temporary treatment was not solution because such persons could be vulnerable to drug peddlers. “All walks of society should come forward to join hands for making drug addicted useful persons of society” said the Minister Higher Education. He added that the proposed task force would suggest practical steps for eradication of this social evil.
