Provincial Minister EPD M.Rizwan Briefed About Zigzag Technology

Provincial Minister EPD M.Rizwan has said that use of Zig-Zag technology in construction and operations of kilns may minimize the effects of burning coal on environment and reduce the fuel consumption up to 30 per cent. He said that kiln owners in Pakistan to adopt this new technology without any fear or hesitation as it gives better quality bricks and reduces coal consumption. He expressed these views while chaired a departmental meeting at EPD on Wednesday. Secretary EPD Dr. Zafar briefed to the minister that Nepal was introduced zig-zag technology in Pakistan with the cooperation of the Brick Kiln Owners Association of Pakistan (BKOAP) about a year ago. He told to the minister that delegation of different owners of Brick Kiln from Nepal arrived Punjab to trained brick Kiln owners in the province. They will educate Pakistani Owners that Zigzag technology can help to save 40% coal in brick kilns during their stay from 12 to 22 Feb. He further briefed that there are 10,300 Brick Kiln in the province and 226 already being shifted to zig-zag technology. Dr zafar also told to the minister that zigzag brick kilns emit white smoke, which is not harmful for human health, as compared to the black smoke which is emitted from traditional kilns. The provincial Minister advised to the Secretary to create awareness about this technology to encourage and support the kiln owners as well as the society.
