Celebration of World Statistics Day

A Symposium for Celebration of World Statistics Day was organized by the Bureau of Statistics, Planning and Development Board, Government of the Punjab, in Auditorium of P&D Board Punjab. Dr. Muhammad Abid Bodla, Member Water/Infrastructure, Environment & Climate Change, P&D Board, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. World Statistics Day in global collaborative endeavor, celebrated after five years and this was the third celebration with the theme “Connecting the world with data we can trust”. Dr. Muhammad Aman Ullah, Joint Chef Economist P&D Board, Director Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI), Senior Officers from the P&D Board, Director General Monitoring & Evaluation, Agriculture Crop Reporting Service, Directorate General Health Services Punjab, Urban Unit, Fisheries Department Punjab, Livestock & Dairy Development Department and Leading Academicians attended the Symposium.Dr. Muhammad Aman Ullah, Joint Chef Economist P&D Board, in his welcome address, shed light on value to statistics in evidence-based decision making and also shared the contribution of Bureau of Statistics Punjab towards this achievement of goal. Mr. Sajid Rasul (Director General Bureau of Statistics Punjab), Dr. Shahid Adil (Director PERI), Dr. Saleha Naghmi Habibullah (Prof. of Statistics, Kinnaird College University Lahore), Dr. Sohail Chand (Principal, College of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences, University of the Punjab Lahore), Dr. Sohail Akhtar (Head, Department of Statistics, GC University Lahore) Dr. Sharoon Hanook (Chairman, Department of Statistics, FC College University, Lahore)delivered valuable presentations on importance of data and statistics for the betterment of the country. Worth of statistics in national development was advocated by the distinguished speakers and emphasis was made on building our policies on evidence and data. The Chief Guest, Dr. Muhammad Abid Bodla, Member Water/Infrastructure, Environment & Climate Change, P&D Board, shared the commitment of Planning and Development Board towards planning and policy making on the bases of reliable and statistically sound data. He drew attention of all decision makers and stakeholders to use statistics and data for policy making and resource allocation in the years to come. He shared the value of statistics for monitoring progress on SDGs and to support policy making with data. The efforts of the Bureau of Statistics, Planning and Development Board Punjab for organizing the Symposium for Celebration of World Statistics Day were appreciated and acknowledged by the Chief guest.
