UK’s Representatives to Punjab Calls on Minister EPD M.Rizwan

Provincial minister EPD M.Rizwan called on UK’s provincial representative to Punjab Mr. Alex Bellinger along with UK development advisor for Punjab Ms. Sana Zia here in committee room of EPD in an introductory meeting on Tuesday. MR Alex told to the minister that he represents the British high commission in Punjab, focusing on UK-Punjab bi-lateral relations, development and investment and trade promotion. He also said that having vast experience work closely with KPK as provincial representative. Ms. Sana Zia told to the minister that she was working closely with the Government of the Punjab to achieve shared goals on health, education, governance, climate and other development priorities. Provincial Minister briefed about measures taken by Punjab Government to control pollution and smog. He said that there are almost 10,000 brick kilns in the province while 98% kilns being converted to Zig-Zag technology from old technology, many dry and wet scrubbers being installed on industries and Smoke emitting industry. The minister further said that Government of the Punjab kicks off environment week from 1st June to 7th, in which all the efforts will be made to stop issues of global warming which is increasing day by day. He said that it was matter of great pride that in the history of Pakistan, first time Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan going to host international environmental conference. He further said that Pakistan will definitely highlight scheme of billion tree Tsunami, clean green Pakistan, electrical vehicle policy, national parks and green jobs. The Alex Bellinger appreciated the efforts done by environment department so for and offered fully cooperation in future to control air pollution and improve air quality standards, especially offered technical training regarding Zig Zag technology. Minister EPD said that Punjab government likes to benefit from the expertise of UK to make clean environment of the Punjab and ready to work with collaboration of UK. On the occasion additional secretary EPD, DG EPA and other relevant persons were also present.
