World Animal Day Celebrated By Livestock Punjab

Brooke Pakistan in collaboration with Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab celebrated World Animal Day in Lahore. Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak (Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab) was the chief guest of the event. 4th October is marked as World Animal Day, an international day of action for animal welfare. The Mission of World Animal Day is to end animal cruelty by raising the status of animals in order to advance welfare standards around the globe. Panel discussions regarding animal welfare and protection of their rights were also conducted. These panel discussions focused on the role of civil society and legislative support towards animal wellbeing. Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak said that our strategic vision is linked with One Health and One Welfare approach that means welfare of animals is linked with human and environment. He said that improved welfare of working animals ensures improved livelihoods of their owners. He further said that the Livestock department of Punjab has taken some remarkable steps towards legislative and policy initiatives for animal welfare such as Punjab Animal Health Act, Livestock Policy, Dog Birth Control Policy, TNVR Project and reorganization of SPCA. He also assured the provision of extension as well curative services for drought animals in various areas of Punjab. Animal owners also shared their point of views about the importance of animals in their livelihood. Parliamentarian Ayesha Iqbal, Additional Secretaries of Livestock Punjab, animal lawyers, representatives from Wildlife, Girls Guide, Civil society and NGOs also attended the event.
