The Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has launched an online application and website “Infection prevention and Control”.
Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-freed Zafar says that in order to provide detailed information about the prevention and control of infection in hospitals and creating awareness for general public about hygiene principles, Lahore General Hospital has launched an online application and website with the name of "Infection Prevention and Control". He added that this App has been launched properly to upload all the necessary information in Urdu and English regarding sterilization from hand washing to operation theatres, from which citizens as well as medical professionals can get benefit from this App while sitting at home. In this regard a special event was held in the headship of Principal PGMI/AMC/Lahore General Hospital Prof. Al-freed Zafar, Senior Consultant of WHO, Geneva, Prof. Nizam Damani, Prof. Arshad Taqi, Prof. Faisal Sultan, CEO Health Care Commission Dr. Saqib Aziz were special participants. Prof. Jodat Saleem and Dr. Amina Asif told about this app and said that people associated with the medical field and the general public can get important information about infection, prevention and basic guidelines because infection free environment is part of the basic SOPs of the hospitals so that the patients who come there can be healthy quickly and do not carry any new diseases with them from hospital as well.
Principal Prof. Al-freed said that such measures are already being taken and promoted to strengthen public health in the developed countries and we should also make full use of such technology to keep our self safe and hygiene. He said that due to the large number of patients and lack of beds Occupancy Rate in the hospitals, it is more important to take special measures of cleanliness and improve the health indicators for which the above mentioned app will be very helpful. On this occasion, Principals, professors, experts from medical profession and heads of various medical colleges of Lahore, Dr. Irfan Malik, MS Dr. Khalid bin Aslam, Dr. Abdul Aziz and others were also present. Speakers said that the purpose of launching the website to provide awareness among general public with the necessary information and precautions for infection control and prevent along with the health profession at their doorsteps so that they can easily avail it. He said that cleanliness operation theatres, wards, laundries, bed sheets, medical equipments of hospitals and these should be infection free as per basic SOPs of the hospitals which we have to ensure in all conditions.
Medical experts said that it is the right of every citizen to have access to information about how to wash hands with soap and other information to ensure cleanliness at home and prevent infection so that people can protect their health at the individual level for a healthy society. MS Dr. Khalid bin Aslam said that LGH has fulfilled its duty to spread awareness at the public level by launching this app, now it is the responsibility of the physicians and the public to express that they have taken full advantage of "Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)" launched by the administration of LGH and medical experts. Dr. Irfan Malik and Dr. Ahmed Naeem appealed to the citizens to avoid smoking and spitting in public places and specially while visiting to the hospital and don't forget to wash hands while meeting with the patients. If you adopt the habit of washing your hands before eating according to the principles of Islam it would be ultimately helpful for keeping yourself safe, they added. At the end of the function, the Principal Prof. Al-freed Zafar presented the shields to the distinguished guests and offered vote of thanks to the participants.
