An MoU was signed between the Forest Department and a private university, according to which the University will work together with the Forest Department to improve the environment with the help of digital techniques in the province. Secretary Forests Shahid Zaman, Dean of the University and Head of Departments were present at this occasion. According to the agreement, LUMS will provide its support to the Forest Department in the management of forest assets. The knowledge management map of the province's forests will also be created, while both institutions will cooperate with each other to carry out the research on relevant topics. According to the MoU, the university will also play its role for long-term monitoring of forests with the help of mobile app, while an early warning system will also be installed to prevent fires issues in the forest. The university will also provide its services to the department to install weather stations to monitor floods, which will give flood alerts on the dashboard. Forest Minister Syed Abbas Ali Shah while appreciating the initiative of LUMS University said that there was a gap regarding the above issues which the university has filled. The Minister of Forests said that the support and exchange of experiences of the both institutions for various projects and improvement of forests will be helpful to maintain the beauty of the province.
