According to the spokesperson of Agriculture Department, Punjab wheat farmers in irrigated areas should use phosphorus and potash fertilizers at the time of sowing for higher production through band placement drill. Use nitrogen fertilizers in 2 or 3 equal turns. Wheat sowing should complete by 30th November. For weak land in irrigated areas use 2 bags DAP + 2 bags Urea and 1 bag SOP/MOP. For medium fertile land 10 bags DAP + 2 bags Urea and use one bag of SOP/MOP. For fertile land use two bags of DAP+ two bags of Urea and one bag of SOP/MOP. Farmers in irrigated areas should apply full amount of phosphorus and potash and 1/3 amount of nitrogen at the time of sowing. Use zinc sulfate 33 percent at 6 kg and boric acid 17 percent at 2.5 kg per acre. If zinc sulfate was used in the previous crop, don't use it for wheat. Remember, use fertilizers for soil in light of soil analysis and for this, farmers can get their soil analyzed by the soil water testing laboratory of agriculture department established at district level. Farmers should keep seed rate of 40 to 50 kg till November 30 and seed germination rate should not be less than 85 percent. The spokesman added that farmers should cultivate wheat on maximum area to ensure food security of the country.
