Provincial Minister Energy Inaugurates Solar Project in GC University Lahore

Provincial Minister for Energy and Food Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak said that shifting towards solar energy is the need of the hour while solar projects in Public institutions will prove fruitful for the savings of Electricity cost. Provincial Minister Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the solar project at Government College University Lahore on Friday.  Vice Chancellor Government College University Lahore Prof. Asghar Zaidi, MD PEECA Abdul Rahman, Head Shams Power and faculty members were present on this occasion. The provincial minister inaugurated 0.5 KW solar project along with VC GC University. On this occasion, he said that without a doubt, this will be another step towards green technology. Energy department had shifted 12 universities out of 14 to solar, work is also in progress on others. The provincial minister also congratulated the MD of PEECA and his entire team. MD PEECA Abdul Rehman while giving briefing to minister told that 0.5 KW  project being launched today,  hopefully it will save 9.2 million Pakistani rupees annually. The project will generate seven lakh units of electricity per year. MD PEECA further told that the Punjab government established the agency PEECA through the energy department. The agency's mission was to ensure energy efficiency and conservation while District headquarters hospitals and public sector are benefiting from Solarization.The provincial minister was informed during the briefing that ESCO model being adopted in solarizing public sector institutions. The head of Al-Shams Power told the provincial minister that

PEECA has undertaken this project in partnership with private company Shams Power and it is expected that the university will benefit Rs 933 million in 25 years. The cost of electricity in the country is more than Rs 45 while GC University is getting electricity at Rs 17.  Vice-Chancellor Government College University Professor Asghar Zaidi hoped that this project will be beneficial for the university and other educational institutions will also bring such a system to promote green. He emphasized that there is an urgent need to promote clean and green energy. He also paid tribute to the team of Energy Agency PEECA  for providing technical support. At the end of the ceremony, commemorative shields were presented to the provincial energy minister and the PEECA agency team.
