Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has said that a record 291 mm record downpour occurred in Lahore during a few hours and such a rainfall was recorded after many decades but despite it water drainage work has been completed in Lakshmi Chowk and other parts of city. At a few places stagnant water is present and for its drainage administration and WASA teams are diligently performing their duties.Provincial Ministers are also present in the field and the whole team of Punjab government is focused on water drainage work. Caretaker CMMohsin Naqvi was talking to media persons at Lakshmi Chowk on visiting various parts of Lahore after a heavy downpour today.Mohsin Naqvi apprised that approximately seven persons died due to electrocution,caving in of roofs and other accidents during torrential rain.One female child died due to drowning in the water.Mohsin Naqvi expressed his heartfelt grief over loss of precious human lives.Mohsin Naqvi informed that deaths also occurred due to falling down of electricity wire and he has talked with the Prime Minister in this regard adding that he has appointed Chairman Inspection Team to conduct an inquiry who will submit a report in coming three days.If LESCO negligence surfaces then action will definitely be taken against the responsibles.Mohsin Naqvi informed that excess water has come in Garden Town,Gulberg,Muslim Town and other adjoining localities due to overflowing of canal but the teams of Punjab government have drained the water to a maximum extent.Mohsin Naqvi stated that we have chalked out our preparation if further rain falls adding that it will be our utmost endeavour to clear the water before next spell of rain so that if next spell arrives then it should also be cleared at the earliest.Mohsin Naqvi apprise that a heavy rain fall took place today and it is our utmost effort to clear all the affected areas by tonight.Totally 134 WASA pumps are doing water drainage work and more pumps are installed where it is needed.In reply to a question Mohsin Naqvi stated that Lahore sewerage issue is very old but solution to this problem lies in making long term planning.Whoesoever elected government comes into power will resolve this issue.It is our utmost effort to redress difficulties of citizens and provide them relief.Directions have been issued to the concerned adminstration in various cities of Punjab to remain in the field and oversee water drainage work where rainfall occurred. We will take every step whatever is humanly possible.Mohsin Naqvi stated that if a team is efficient then good results are achieved adding that undoubtedly our team is excellent and the whole team is working hard adding that Insha Allah all areas of Lahore will be cleared soon.
