During a follow-up meeting chaired by caretaker Livestock Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad, more progress has been made in the establishment of Special Economic Zone to increase meat export from Punjab. Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Masoud Anwar, Secretary Board of Revenue, CEO Punjab Board of Trade and Investment (PBTI) and officers of other concerned departments attended the meeting. On this occasion, various aspects of establishment of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) covering fifty thousand acres in Cholistan were reviewed.
Ibrahim Murad said that Cholistan region will be focused to increase meat export. “Bahawalpur Special Economic Zone will have a separate processing section for meat and dairy products, which will be Pakistan's first special economic zone for meat and dairy exports”, he said. Caretaker minister directed CEO PBTI to submit the complete plan of the project and said that the proposed plan will be submitted for the approval of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Moreover, Ibrahim Hasan Murad added that the Punjab Board of Revenue will remove the complications in the transfer of land. He said that at one hand a huge amount of valuable foreign exchange will be earned from the Meat and Dairy Export Processing Zone while wide employment opportunities will also be created on the other. He reiterated his commitment to utilise the full potential of Punjab's meat and milk exports.
