Punjab Introduces Major Exam Reform: Students to Get Six Chances to Pass Board Exams

Punjab has introduced a significant shift in its education assessment system, aiming to provide students with greater flexibility and reduced academic pressure. Under the revised policy, students who fail board examinations will now be allowed up to six attempts instead of the previous limit of four. The change applies across all Punjab educational boards and covers Matriculation, Intermediate, as well as O and A Level candidates.

According to details of the policy, students will be permitted to reappear in exams within a four-year window, giving them multiple opportunities to clear subjects or improve grades without losing academic time. The policy also ensures that all candidates must attempt exams under the updated syllabus, maintaining uniform standards across all attempts. Officials say the reform is designed to make the examination system more student-friendly and less stressful.

Another key feature of the updated framework is its inclusive approach. Students who fail in one or more subjects will not be required to repeat an entire academic year. Instead, they will be able to retake only the failed subjects through supplementary or re-examination opportunities, allowing them to continue their education without major delays.
